3 Principles to Help You Find Happiness Even if You Don’t Have Money

“When I get rich, I’m going to be happy.” This is the underlying belief that drives every single person with dreams of making it big. There’s just one problem. It’s a flawed belief. It’s a paradox because wealth isn’t actually a perquisite of happiness. Anyone can be happy, regardless of how many millions they have in the bank.  Motivational Speaker/Author Remez Sasson advises that “True inner peace is independent of external conditions and circumstances. It confers tranquility, even in difficult and unpleasant situations… Few realize the importance and benefits of inner peace, and still fewer know that it’s a skill which can be learned.” Here are a few tips on how to find happiness in spite of where you are on the road to success:

     I.        Stop Idolizing Money:

The society we live in places an extreme amount of importance on money.  Fame and fortune are constantly advertised as the ultimate prize.  But there’s a fine line between wanting the finer things in life, and being greedy for them.  If your desire for money is strong enough to interfere with honor and integrity, misery is inevitable.

    II.        Appreciate What Matters:

If there’s one lesson to be learnt from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s that you can’t put a price on good health.  It’s that appreciating the people you love, matters more than what you own.  All these little things in life are what make it worth living.  So don’t take them for granted.  Eat healthy and be kind.  Love freely and seize the day.  Money is meant to be made and lost. But life isn’t.

   III.        Count Your Blessings:

No matter how much you stand to gain from getting rich, money isn’t the only thing worth being thankful for in your existence.  With or without money, every person has access to resources and opportunities worth celebrating.  So celebrate them.  Be thankful for food, shelter and clothing.  Be thankful for family, friends and laughter.  Keep counting your blessings, and you’ll realize you have a lot going for yourself in spite of finances.

Conclusion:

One of the worst mistakes a person can make is procrastinating happiness. Partly because money doesn’t buy happiness, but mostly because life is short. There is no guarantee that tomorrow’s riches will wipe away your worries. Instead of expecting happiness to materialize sometime in the future, make it manifest in the way you live today. Wealth should be something which amplifies your happiness.
