4 Bad Decisions to Avoid if You Want to Be Happy When You Grow Old

Achieving success in life is all about making good choices. Unfortunately, good judgement isn’t a skill that comes naturally to people. Especially when people are still young. No matter what your hopes and dreams might be, the only way to make them come true is by being wise. By figuring out how to be responsible, and purposeful, as you mature over time. Career Educator Douglas Newton advises that “Learning how to make good decisions is an essential life skill; not just for achieving outward success, but in order to secure a lasting sense of personal fulfilment… Like most situations involving learning, it’s better to start early.” Here are a few common life-changing mistakes that people tend to make in their youth:

A.    Comparing Yourself to Others:

One of the biggest sources of pain in the human experience is insecurity.  And insecurity is only possible when people compare themselves to others.  There’s nothing wrong with being aware of other people, but don’t let their opinions and achievements dictate your sense of self-worth.

B.    Putting Off Self-Care:

Life might present you with many different opportunities to succeed, but it only gives you one chance to be healthy.  You only have one body, and one lifetime to protect it.  If you take care of your body, you will thrive.  But if you neglect it, you will suffer.  Eat healthy, exercise, and get plenty of rest.  It’s good for you in the long run.

C.    Ungratefulness:

Sometimes people develop such high expectations in life that they lose sight of the good things going on around them.  They become so blind to optimism that bitterness consumes their hearts. Take time to stop and smell the roses.  Count your blessings every now and then.  Don’t become so obsessed with what you want, that you start looking down on what you have.

D.    Forgetting to Save:

Money matters in life.  People need money to feel secure.  Unfortunately, money doesn’t grow unless you save it.  And saving money is an act of discipline.  The sooner you learn how to save money while you earn it, the more you can expect to live comfortably as you age.

Conclusion:

There’s an ancient proverb which says that “youth is wasted on the young.” This proverb is more than just a complaint. It’s a warning. It’s a caution not to make immature mistakes in life. The best way to avoid disappointment when your older is to seize the day now.  Envision a bright future for yourself, and work towards materializing it. Embracing a long-term view of your greater purpose helps to eliminate the problems that come with impulsive bad judgement.  If you like what you just read from our blog, you’ll love the various informative courses, workshops and events listed on our websites and social media.
