4 Philosophies to Help You Keep Dreaming When Life Gets You Down
Without question, the economic downturn triggered by the coronavirus pandemic has broken a lot of hearts. In the face of widespread uncertainty, it’s challenging for any reasonable person to keep dreaming. To keep wishing and hoping for the same successes they once cherished before everything came to a standstill. As bleak as things might seem however, now is not the time to give up on your dreams. On the contrary, now is the time to fight for them. Motivational Writer Chomwa Shitaki suggests that “Nothing can be done without believing in yourself first. True, there are a lot of factors that will contribute to your success. But the biggest factor that will be determine whether you achieve something significant or not is self-belief. How much of what you achieve will mostly depend on how much you believe in your abilities.” Here are a few tips on how to keep the eye of the tiger, in the midst of a storm:
1. Don’t Stop Climbing:
Ambition is the fuel necessary for achievement. As long as you have breath in your lungs, aspire to accomplish more. If your target is a mountaintop, aim for the sky. If your target is the sky, aim for the stars. If your target is the stars, aim for the heavens. Limiting yourself only wastes opportunity and potential.
2. Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself:
Words hold tremendous power. They can either inspire, or they can discourage. In order to visualize and motivate yourself to stay the course, never put yourself down with harsh criticism. Eliminate any and all pessimistic language from your consciousness.
3. Keep an Open Mind:
Doing things by the book feels safe, but it can also blind you to the fact that life is unpredictable. Always be flexible and open to change. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. You have to trust the process. You have to be open to the possibility that luck happens. Be strategic, but have some faith too.
The pain caused by adversity can paralyze people. It can deceive people into obsessing about failures and betrayals at the expense of progress. If hard times have ever interfered with your path in life, don’t forget to be resilient. If you fall down seven times, make sure to get back up eight.
All dreams evolve over time, but if nurtured in a healthy way, they can navigate us towards exciting accomplishments in life. Considering the joy you have to gain from realizing your dreams, one of the worst things you can do is let go of them. Especially in the heat of a crisis. Keep calm, and carry on. Instead of throwing in the towel, give yourself some time to regroup. Give your dreams a fighting chance.
